SUNY’s General Education Requirements
Background:
Like many university systems around the country, SUNY has decided that students earning baccalaureate degrees will benefit from a common core of general education coursework. To meet this goal, SUNY requires the completion of 10 courses. If you intend to pursue a bachelor's degree at FIT, you must complete all 10 approved general education courses before you can graduate with a BS or a BFA from FIT. This applies to any first-time student who started at FIT in Fall 2000 or later. Beginning in Fall 2002, it also applies to transfer students who first started college in Fall 2000 or later.
One SUNY-approved course from each of the following 10 areas is required (a minimum of 3 credits each). An FIT course cannot be used to meet more than one SUNY area.
