The Internship Center's FIT/NYC program starts in late May and concludes in the middle of July. It involves taking a 2,3 or 4-credit course and requires interns to contribute a minimum of 6 weeks to the worksite. It also requires interns to spend 12 hours in the classroom. Considerable care is taken to ensure that every internship experience is aligned with the student's major area of study and his or her career interests and that it meets the operational needs of the sponsor organization.

The classroom-instruction portion of the course has two goals: to empower students to make their worksite experiences as productive as possible and to teach them skills. This includes helping them learn how to successfully market themselves throughout their careers.

An internship experience will advance you personally, academically, professionally, and increase your marketability in the global workplace. An FIT/NYC Summer Semester internship will allow you to:

  • Earn academic credit while working in your chosen field
  • Gain real-world work experience with your favorite designer, retailer, magazine, television show, or other organization
  • Network with professionals
  • Let an employer get to know you as a potential employee
  • Apply lessons learned in class to real working situations
  • Confirm that your career choice is the right one for you
  • Live in FIT on-campus housing

Requirements

All non-FIT students must be matriculated and pursing a degree at their respective university to qualify for our program. They must also have a Minimum GPA of 2.5 to be accepted into the program.
