Two-Year AAS Degree
Step 1: Register for all your Major and Related Area Courses
For your first semester, you must register for a specific set of major and related area courses:
1. AC111
2. AC161
3. CD122
4. FM114
Use the Schedule of Classes to make your schedule by picking appropriate sections of the required courses. Be sure to select a few alternatives, in case your first choices are not available. You must select from the sections that are allowed for your major/degree program or you will get a major restriction error. See the Registration Instructions for a guide as to how to read the Schedule of Classes and common error messages. Register for all of your required major and related area courses.

Step 2: Register for Liberal Arts Courses
In order to complete your AAS in two years, you should schedule two liberal arts courses per semester, for a total of eight courses over four semesters. Select two liberal arts courses from the Schedule of Classes that will fulfill the liberal arts requirements for your chosen program and will not conflict with the schedule of your major and related area courses. Be sure to select a few alternatives, in case your first choices are not available.
Print out the liberal arts requirements chart below for your reference when you register.

Placement
Placement in English writing and Math is required for incoming students. If you have not submitted SAT or ACT scores or taken the FIT placement tests by January 12, you cannot register for your English, math, or science courses at this time, so plan on registering for two courses in disciplines that don’t require placement. If your placement results require you to take developmental coursework— Educational and/or Math Skills courses— please note that this will be in addition to, and not part of, the required eight courses. The Placement website has the information you need to know about placement based on your SAT/ACT scores or the FIT Placement Exam.
Transfer Credits
To ensure that your transfer credits are applied to your FIT record, make sure that all final, official transcripts have been sent to Admissions, Room C139. To check your transfer credits, please see your degree audit. A degree audit is a computer-based assessment that shows the progress you’re making toward meeting your degree requirements. Any course granted as transfer credit will be printed with a “T” grade on your degree audit in the appropriate requirement. Degree audits are available in the Online Information System section of MyFIT. Go to www.fitnyc.edu/DARS for full instructions.
