INTERIOR DESIGN
Two-Year AAS Degree

Follow these step by step instructions for a successful registration:

Step 1: Review your Art and Design Block of Major Courses

What is a block? School of Art & Design major/related area coursework is sequential and each semester builds upon the previous one. Certain required major courses must be taken simultaneously to ensure that you have what you need to move on. At FIT, we call these groups of required major courses a block.

For your first semester, you have been pre-registered for a block.  This is to give you a proper start, ensuring that you build an appropriate foundation before moving on to advanced study in the field. This portion of your schedule cannot be changed. Before registering for your liberal arts selections, take the time to familiarize yourself with the days and times of your art and design courses.

You may wish to print the directions below for viewing your block of art and design courses.

Step 2: Register for Related Area and Liberal Arts Courses

Related Area Requirement
You are required to add one of the following related area courses to your block schedule during online registration.  You must choose and register for either CD113 or FA141.  See the Liberal Arts and Related Area Requirements link below for details.

Liberal Arts Requirement
In order to complete your AAS in two years, you should schedule two liberal arts courses per semester, for a total of eight courses over four semesters. Select two liberal arts courses from the Schedule of Classes that will fulfill the liberal arts requirements for your chosen program and will not conflict with the schedule of your major and related area courses. Be sure to select a few alternatives, in case your first choices are not available.

Print out the liberal arts requirements chart below for your reference when you register.

Placement
Placement in English writing and Math is required for incoming students. If you have not submitted SAT or ACT scores or taken the FIT placement tests by
January 12, you cannot register for your English, math, or science courses at this time, so plan on registering for two courses in disciplines that don’t require placement. If your placement results require you to take developmental coursework— Educational and/or Math Skills courses— please note that this will be in addition to, and not part of, the required eight courses. The Placement website has the information you need to know about placement based on your SAT/ACT scores or the FIT Placement Exam.

Transfer Credits
To ensure that your transfer credits are applied to your FIT record, make sure that all final, official transcripts have been sent to Admissions, Room C139.  To check your transfer credits, please see your degree audit.  A degree audit is a computer-based assessment that shows the progress you’re making toward meeting your degree requirements.  Any course granted as transfer credit will be printed with a “T” grade on your degree audit in the appropriate requirement.  Degree audits are available in the Online Information System section of MyFIT.  Go to www.fitnyc.edu/DARS for full instructions.
